Beginning at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, June 29, sport fishing in the Ayakulik River drainage is restricted to non-retention of all king salmon, regardless of size. In addition, only one unbaited, single hook, artificial lure may be used in the Ayakulik River drainage. The biological escapement goal (BEG) for Ayakulik River king salmon is 4,000 to 7,000 fish. Despite previous management actions this year to reduce king salmon harvest during the inriver sport fishery, the total weir count on June 25 of 1,718 fish indicates that additional measures are necessary to further reduce king salmon mortality.
