The sport fishing bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon in the Afognak River drainage has been increased to 10 fish per day; 10 in possession. This emergency order will be in effect beginning 12:01a.m., Saturday, June 8.
The escapement goal for sockeye salmon into the Afognak River drainage is 20,000 to 50,000 fish. As of June 5, the weir count was approximately 10,750 sockeye salmon. Based on historical run timing, the department expects the final weir count to exceed the desired escapement level for this stock. Due to the projected number of returning sockeye, the department is able to allow sport fish anglers an opportunity to harvest more fish. Effective on the associated time and date, the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon in the Afognak River drainage will increase to 10 per day; 10 in possession.
