Juneau – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced today that Glacier, Moraine and, Crystal lakes will open to sport fishing for king salmon June 4. The bag and possession limit in Glacier, Moraine and, Crystal lakes will be 4 king salmon of any size from June 4 through December 31, 2013.
The Department stocked Crystal and Moraine lakes on June 4th with hatchery-raised king salmon that are 7 to 10 inches in length. These fish will be in addition to those hatchery-raised king salmon that were stocked in Glacier, Moraine and Crystal lakes in 2012 in the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area. The purpose of the lake stocking is to provide additional freshwater sport fishing opportunity, especially for youth in the Juneau area. This project is conducted through the cooperative efforts of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the U. S. Forest Service, and Douglas Island Pink and Chum, Inc.
These stocked lakes can be accessed by the trail system that winds through the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area. Trailheads to the area are located behind the U. S. Forest Service Juneau Ranger District office on Back Loop Road and at the end of Dredge Lake Road. Trail maps posted at the trailheads and at various locations throughout the trail system identify the location of all lakes within the recreation area.
