Freshwater Fishing

  • Coho fishing has been pretty slow with most of the fish and most of the effort focused at the Buskin and Pasagshak, with a few fish being caught at the Olds.
  • Some silvers are showing up at Mill Bay, Mission Beach with some jumpers just outside the channel over the weekend.
  • Monashka Bay is very slow for silvers with a couple near White Sands, but very few fish around.
  • Some of the Afognak coho runs have been notable exceptions to the coho season so far with good fishing reported in Afognak and Paul’s lakes.

Saltwater Fishing

  • King salmon fishing has picked back up a bit with fish being caught when the weather cooperates at the Fingers and Outer Humpback Rock.
  • Coho fishing offshore has been pretty slow with just a few fish being caught here and there but no notable hot spots.
  • Halibut and lingcod fishing has picked back up again too with lots of halibut and lingcod both being reported caught near the Fingers and around Kalsin Reef.
  • Rockfish are still abundant in most areas. See the emergency order below for more info for nonresident limits.
    • Check your 2022 Southwest Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet for species identification information.
    • The use of a deepwater release mechanism is required on all sportfishing vessels in Alaska and they must be used to release rockfish back down to a depth of capture or 100 feet, whichever is shallower. Ever heard of the deepwater release? Check out our webpage for more info.

Local Lakes

A great fall lake to fish is Heitman. Since this is our highest elevation stocked lake, it cools down the soonest and freezes the most, so it’s a great time of year to take the hike up to the lake and catch some rainbows. Fishing around the end of the trail is often productive.

Emergency Orders

Please review the emergency orders and advisory announcements below in their entirety before heading out on your next fishing trip.
