Freshwater Fishing

Hooligan

• Dipnetting for hooligan (smelt) closed in freshwater on June 16. Dipnetting for hooligan is closed for the season.

Rainbow Trout/Dolly Varden/Arctic Char

• Rainbow trout and Dolly Varden fishing has opened on many parts of the Campbell Creek and Chester Creek drainages as of June 15. Both creeks were recently stocked with trout. Water levels are still relatively high for this time of year, but the water clarity is improving. Anglers can have success for local trout by casting small spinners and spoons through deep pools or drifting nymph or egg imitation fly patterns.
• Reminder on June 25 and June 26 anglers 16 years of age and older may not sport fish in Campbell Creek from ADF&G Markers under the Dimond Boulevard Bridge to the Old Seward Highway while the youth-only fishery is occurring.

Salmon

• Ship Creek is open to king salmon fishing and a few more fish come in each day. Water levels are still high and turbid right now due to snow melt but dropping quick and fishable. Bait behind a spin-n-glow with extra weight is your best bet right now until the water comes down. Remember from May 15 through July 13 Ship Creek is only open to fishing between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. each day.
• Campbell Creek is currently closed for salmon fishing. This weekend June 25 and June 26, 2022, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from the ADF&G markers under the Dimond Boulevard Bridge to the Old Seward Highway is the youth-only king salmon fishery. Water levels are high, and visibility is poor. Fishing for the kids is going to be challenging. Remember this is a youth-only fishery so adults can aid the individuals 15 years of age or younger, but this area is closed to fishing to individuals who are 16 years old or older. • Bird Creek is currently closed to all fishing until July 14.

Saltwater Fishing

Hooligan

• Dipnetting for hooligan closed in the saltwaters on June 1. Dipnetting for hooligan is closed for the season.

Local Lakes

• Anchorage Bowl lakes are still fishing good! With the expected warmer temperatures all weekend, fishing will be best in the morning and evenings when it cooler.
• Have a canoe, kayak, or small raft and looking to get just outside of Anchorage? Give Mirror or Beach lakes a try. Rainbow trout were recently stocked in these lakes and are fun options.
• Jewel and Sand lakes are also a fun fishing option right in town for shore fishing or better yet, dropping your raft or canoe into the lake.
• Dry flies in the evening make for some fun fishing. Small spinners are a great option right now as well. These should work well at many of the stocked lakes.

• Check out the stocking webpage to find out when your favorite lake was last stocked.
• Fishing on base? Just a reminder, you need to register with iSportsman and check with base personnel prior to fishing on JBER.
• Northern pike are not native to Anchorage area lakes but there are some in Lower Fire Lake. If you catch a pike in any Anchorage area lake, please do not release it.

• There are currently no emergency orders for the Anchorage management area.
