* Just a reminder to all our anglers, please do your part to help slow the spread of Covid-19 by following and reviewing the current State of Alaska Health Mandates in effect. This includes practicing social distancing while sport and personal use fishing and wearing a face covering when fishing and if you are needing fishing supplies from your local store as indicated in Health Alert 010.

Freshwaters

Silver Salmon

Silver fishing has slowed considerably on the Situk River. Most fish have dispersed upstream with a few fresh fish still entering the lower river. The water levels continue to be high with recent rain events making fishing conditions good from boats and more difficult from shore. Tawah Creek and Lost River seem to be producing a few more fish lately but overall has slowed. Effort has decreased significantly on the Situk and in streams like Tawah Creek and Lost River. Pitching spinners or spoon into a deep hole or along the shore continues to be the preferred method of choice for targeting silver salmon. Still, what makes silver fishing the best is all the different ways you can get them to strike. Try drifting a jig or worm under a float along a cut-bank or swing a brightly colored streamer fly through a deep run to shake things up. Please remember to take off your treble hooks while fishing the Situk River!

Saltwaters

Silver Salmon

Sport fishing for silver salmon in marine waters is very slow. Catch rates were decent at the end of August and begininng of September but dropped off significantly since then.

King Salmon

Sport fishing for king salmon in marine waters is very slow. Fishing should continue to be slow through fall/winter.

Halibut

Halibut fishing has picked back up in Yakutat Bay and outside waters. Catch rates have improved with the presence of dogfish absent. Soaking salted herring, octopus or pink salmon works the best.

Lingcod

Lingcod fishing is good right now. Try using rubber tube jigs over pinnacles or large rocky structure.

Rockfish

Fishing for pelagic rockfish is good right now. Lots of rockfish are caught over pinnacles and reefs. Try using small metal jigs or mooching herring.
