Ayakulik River Sockeye Salmon Bag Limit Increased

(Kodiak) - To allow increased sport fishing opportunity for sockeye salmon, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is increasing the bag and possession limits for sockeye salmon to 10 fish in the Ayakulik River drainage effective 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, June 23 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2021.

"Even with increased harvest and sport fishing opportunities in the Ayakulik River, it is projected that the biological escapement goal will be exceeded," stated Area Management Biologist Tyler Polum. "The early sockeye salmon run in the drainage is well above average and has seen a strong run so far. It's a good opportunity to allow additional harvest of sockeye salmon."

ADF&G staff monitor this run at the Ayakulik River salmon counting weir daily. If the run slows or does not come in as predicted, bag limits may be reduced to the standard regulatory limit by further emergency order.
