NONCOMMERCIAL TANNER CRAB FISHERIES REMAIN CLOSED IN COOK INLET AND NORTH GULF COAST WATERS

All noncommercial (subsistence, personal use, and sport) Tanner crab fisheries in Registration Area H will remain closed for the 2015–2016 season. This comprises waters of Cook Inlet (including Kachemak Bay and Kamishak Bay) and the North Gulf Coast.

Surveys were last conducted in 2013 for Kachemak Bay and 2012 for Kamishak Bay. Survey results of legal male Tanner crab were well below that which is needed to open the fisheries according to the 5AAC 35.408 Registration Area H Tanner Crab Harvest Strategy. Since no surveys will be conducted in 2015, all areas of Cook Inlet and the North Gulf Coast will remain closed.

For more information, please contact biologists Carol Kerkvliet or Jan Rumble in Homer at 907-235-8191.
