KING SALMON ANNUAL LIMIT IN NINILICHIK RIVER AND SURROUNDING MARINE WATERS RESTORED TO FIVE

The annual limit of five king salmon 20” or longer has been restored to the Cook Inlet annual limit for fish harvested in the Ninilchik River and all marine waters south of the latitude of the mouth of the Ninilchik River to the latitude of Bluff Point beginning 12:01 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015. Any king salmon recorded before Saturday, June 20, on the harvest portion of an Alaska sport fishing license or harvest record card counts towards the Cook Inlet annual limit.

The sustainable escapement goal (SEG) for Anchor River king salmon is 3,800–10,000 fish. Through June 17, cumulative king salmon escapement was 5,743 fish. Historically approximately 61% of the run has passed upstream of the weir by this date projecting an escapement of approximately 9,500 king salmon. Therefore, it is justified to allow increased harvest opportunity in the marine waters south of the Ninilchik River to Bluff Point.
