AYAKULIK RIVER DRAINAGE SOCKEYE SALMON BAG AND POSSESSION LIMIT INCREASED

The sport fishing bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon, 20 inches or greater in length, in the Ayakulik River drainage has been increased to 10 fish.  This emergency order will be in effect beginning 12:01 a.m., Friday, June 19.  Only one unbaited, single-hook, artificial lure may be used in the Ayakulik River drainage as specified by Emergency Order No. 2-KS-4-24-15.

The biological escapement goal for sockeye salmon into the Ayakulik River drainage is 140,000 to 280,000 fish. As of June 16, the weir count was 106,910 sockeye salmon. Based on historical run timing, the spawning escapement is projected to exceed the escapement goal for this stock. To provide additional sport harvest opportunity for sockeye salmon in the Ayakulik River drainage, the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon, 20 inches or greater in length, is increased to 10 fish.
