Reporting Requirements

  • Successful Hunters
    • Must return the completed hunt report and the lower front teeth to ADF&G in Douglas within 5 days of kill.
    • Specimens Required: Lower front teeth (on 5-inch section of jaw), and antlers (attached to the skull plate)
  • Unsuccessful Hunters
    Must return the completed hunt report to ADF&G, or report online at hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.
  • Internet Reporting
    If you hunted unsuccessfully or did not hunt, you may report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov

Hunting Conditions

ELIGIBILITY: Before receiving a permit, you must view the video "Is This Moose Legal" (www.legalmoose.adfg.alaska.gov).

HUNT AREA (RM049): Unit 1C, Gustavus area.

SEASON DATES: September 15 - October 15.

LEGAL ANIMAL: One bull moose with a spike or fork antler, or 50-inch or greater antler spread, or 3 or more brow tines on at least one antler.

PERMIT, LICENSE, LOCKING-TAG: Carry your permit and hunting license. Nonresidents: also carry your metal locking-tag for moose and the associated Big Game Tag Record.

OTHER: The use of motorized vehicles (except aircraft and boats) off of the highway system for transportation of moose hunters, their gear and/or parts of moose is prohibited within the Gustavus area between September 15 and October 15. "Highway" means the drivable surface of a constructed road. A map defining the Gustavus area is available from ADF&G in Douglas.

IF YOU KILL A MOOSE:
-- You must immediately validate your permit by cutting out the month and date of harvest. Nonresidents: before leaving the kill site you must also affix your metal locking-tag onto a part of the animal required to be salvaged.
-- Reporting harvest: On the day of harvest, you must report your harvested moose no later than 11:59 PM by calling 1-888-956-6673 (1-888-95MOOSE) and providing name, permit number, date of kill, location of kill and antler configuration (spike, fork, 50-inch, 3 brow tines). Within 5 days of kill, you must submit the completed hunt report and the lower front teeth (on a 5-inch section of jaw) to ADF&G in Douglas.
-- Hunters must retain antlers until verified by ADF&G or Alaska Wildlife Troopers.

IF YOU DO NOT KILL A MOOSE, OR DO NOT HUNT: You must submit a completed permit report to ADF&G, or report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.

IF YOU FAIL TO REPORT AS REQUIRED: You will not be eligible to receive any permits the next regulatory year and may face additional enforcement action.
