Freshwater Fishing

  • Fishing for resident species such as rainbow trout, Arctic char, Arctic grayling, and northern pike is reported as good to great. Spinners, spoons, and flies should continue to work well; however, early salmon spawning is beginning, and egg patterns will start to surpass other gear types in effectiveness soon.
  • Sockeye salmon are beginning to slow down, however they should still be abundant enough to target in most Bristol Bay drainages. Standard flossing methods that are applied to fishing sockeye throughout the state should be productive in Bristol Bay as well.
  • Coho salmon have begun to show up in Bristol Bay drainages and will continue to increase in abundance over the next two weeks. Fishing should begin to pick up this weekend going into next week. Spinners and spoons should work well.

Saltwater Fishing

Halibut fishing near Protection Point is reported to be slow with mixed success.
