Freshwater Fishing

  • Due to low water and higher than average water temperatures, anglers are reminded to land fish quickly and keep their catch in the water if it is going to be released to minimize stress on the fish.
  • In the Nushagak drainage fishing for coho salmon is currently reported as fair to good.
  • In the Naknek drainage cohos are present but fishing continues to be reported as fair possibly due to higher than normal water temperatures.
  • In the Togiak River and nearby drainages coho fishing is currently reported as good to very good.
  • In the Naknek, Alagnak, and Kvichak river drainages, fishing for rainbow trout is reported as good. Try casting spinners, streamers, or egg patterns.
  • Fishing for Arctic char continues to be reported as fair in the Wood River Lakes system. Try casting or jigging spoons or stripping large streamers.
  • Fishing for northern pike in lakes throughout Bristol Bay has been fair. Try casting spoons, surface lures, or streamers close to shore in shallow weedy bays.
