Description: The Sandy River weir is located about 25 km upstream of the river mouth, and about 7 km downstream of Sandy Lake, about 40 km east of Port Moller on the North Alaska Peninsula. The weir is a large conventional wooden tripod weir with aluminum pickets. The weir is about 70 m long, and the river depth ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 m. The main species counted through the Sandy River weir is sockeye salmon, though a moderate number of Chinook also spawn in the river below the weir site. The current escapement goal is 40,000 to 60,000.
