(Kodiak) - In support of additional harvest opportunity, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is increasing the coho salmon bag limit for the Pasagshak River drainage to two per day and in possession through the end of the year. This regulatory change is effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, September 24 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2021.

On September 22, 2021, a drone survey of the Pasagshak River drainage counted 6,215 coho salmon. This is well above the escapement goal of 1,200 fish and it is anticipated to remain so even with the additional harvest. Therefore, it is warranted to increase the bag and possession limit for coho salmon in this sport fishery.

“Coho salmon returns to the Kodiak Road System are strong this season and the Pasagshak River drainage is one of the largest coho salmon sport fisheries,” stated Area Management Biologist Tyler Polum. “In light of current surveys, it’s warranted to allow increased harvest opportunity for coho salmon in the drainage and allow anglers to take advantage of the large run of coho salmon.”
