AFOGNAK RIVER DRAINAGE SOCKEYE SALMON BAG LIMIT INCREASED

The sport fishing bag limit for sockeye salmon, 20 inches or greater in length, in the Afognak River drainage has been increased to 10 fish. This emergency order will be in effect beginning 12:01 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016. The possession limit remains unchanged at 10 fish.

The biological escapement goal for sockeye salmon into the Afognak River drainage is 20,000 to 50,000 fish. As of June 1, the weir count was 11,230 sockeye salmon. Based on historical run timing, the spawning escapement is projected to exceed the upper end of the goal. To provide additional sport harvest opportunity for sockeye salmon in the Afognak River drainage, the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon, 20 inches or greater in length, is increased to 10 fish.
