Karluk River Drainage Sockeye Salmon Bag and Possession Limit Increased

Kodiak - The sport fishing bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon, 20 inches or greater in length, in the Karluk River drainage has been increased to 10 fish. This emergency order will be in effect beginning 12:01 a.m., Wednesday, June 7.

The biological escapement goal for early run sockeye salmon into the Karluk River drainage is 150,000 to 250,000 fish. As of June 4, the weir count was 125,978 sockeye salmon. Based on historical run timing, the spawning escapement is projected to exceed the escapement goal for this stock. To provide additional sport harvest opportunity for sockeye salmon in the Karluk River drainage, the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon, 20 inches or greater in length, is increased to 10 fish.
