Changes to Anchorage Area Sport Fishing Regulations

The Alaska Board of Fisheries met in Anchorage from February 23 – March 8 to hear public comment regarding changes to Upper Cook Inlet fisheries. The Board accepted the following regulatory changes for the Anchorage area, which will be in effect for the upcoming fishing season:

Campbell Creek

  1. On Campbell Creek from ADF&G markers on the upstream side of the Lake Otis Parkway Bridge to an ADF&G marker located near the forks at Piper Street, sport fishing is OPEN from July 14 – September 30.

Ship Creek

  1. A section on Ship Creek, 100 feet below the Chugach Power Plant Dam to 300 feet above the Elmendorf Power Plant Dam, near the William Jack Hernandez Hatchery, is closed to ALL sport fishing. Closing this section will assure that William Jack Hernandez Hatchery achieves king and coho salmon broodstock goals.
  2. A youth-only fishing zone was created on Ship Creek for the third Saturday in June. This year it will be on June 17th, 2017. This regulation allows a 12-hour period (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for youth, 15 years of age and younger, to fish in a small section without competition from adult anglers. The boundaries of the youth-only fishing zone are from where Ship Creek intersects with C Street Bridge upstream to the Bridge Seafood Restaurant.

Sixmile Lake

  1. Lower Sixmile Lake was added to the stocked lakes list to align regulations with Upper Sixmile Lake. Upper Sixmile Lake is currently stocked by ADF&G with triploid rainbow trout and is connected to Lower Sixmile Lake by a culvert.
