PASAGSHAK RIVER DRAINAGE REOPENS TO SPORT FISHING FOR SOCKEYE SALMON ON JULY 14

The Pasagshak River drainage will reopen to sockeye salmon fishing at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, July 14.

“We had to restrict sockeye fishing in the Pasagshak in late June due to low numbers of sockeye through the weir,” Michelle Stratton, a Fisheries Biologist in Kodiak said. “Over the course of the last week, the sockeye counts have notably increased. The lower end of the escapement goal was met and as a result we are able to reopen the sockeye fishery.”

As of July 13, the weir count was 3,084 sockeye salmon and the escapement goal has been achieved. Anglers are reminded that the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon on the Kodiak Road system is two fish.
