YOUTH-ONLY KING SALMON FISHING DAY AT THE EKLUTNA TAILRACE, SATURDAY, JUNE 20

A portion of the Eklutna Tailrace from the confluence with the Knik River up-stream to the pedestrian bridge will be open for fishing only to anglers age 15 and younger on Saturday, June 20 from 6:00am-6:00pm. The remainder of the Tailrace will be open to fishing for anglers of all ages.

Fishing gear will be available for use at the event.

The daily bag and possession limit is one king salmon 20” or longer and one in possession; less than 20” is ten per day and ten in possession. Youth anglers must carry a free Harvest Record Card available at any license vendor in order to immediately record harvested king salmon 20”  or longer.

The Eklutna Tailrace is located at mile 3.5 on the Old Glenn Highway.

Youth fisheries were established by the Alaska State Legislature and implemented by the Alaska Board of Fisheries to provide special opportunity for young people to catch fish. An additional Youth Fishing Day at the Eklutna Tailrace this season will be on Saturday, August 15.

Angling families are encouraged to participate in the “Five Salmon Family Challenge.” This challenge is open to all angling families who document the catch of all five species of Pacific salmon commonly found in Alaska.
