2015 KING SALMON SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS FOR JUNEAU AREA MARINE WATERS

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish announced today that the king salmon bag and possession limit for District 11 is one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length for all anglers, and the waters of upper Taku inlet north of a line from Cooper Point to the mouth of Dorothy Creek are closed to king salmon fishing.  These regulations are effective from 12:01 a.m. Saturday April 4, 2015 through June 30, 2015 (see attached map)

Taku River king salmon production is poor at this time.  The 2015 preseason forecast for the total terminal run is 26,100 king salmon. But taking into account average forecast error, the lower end of the escapement goal is unlikely to be met unless harvests of Taku River king salmon are reduced.  The current regional bag limits, set under the Southeast Alaska King Salmon Management Plan during years when treaty king salmon abundance is high, are not appropriate in areas where local king salmon stocks are in a period of low productivity; therefore, the king salmon bag and possession limit is being reduced to one fish in District 11.
