CHATANIKA RIVER PERSONAL USE WHITEFISH SPEAR FISHERY PERMITS ISSUED BEGINNING AUGUST 18

Two hundred household permits for the 2014 Chatanika River Personal Use Whitefish Spear Fishery will be issued on a first come, first served basis from the Fairbanks Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) office located at 1300 College Road beginning 8:00 a.m. Monday, August 18.

Only one permit will be issued per household. Permit applicants must be Alaska residents and have a valid resident sport fishing license. Whitefish can only be taken by spear in the Chatanika River drainage under personal use regulations with a personal use permit; the use of spears to take whitefish in the Chatanika River drainage under sport fishing regulations is prohibited. Whitefish can be taken by sport fishing with hook and line in the Chatanika River drainage.

Each household permit authorizes a harvest of 10 whitefish in that portion of the Chatanika River from the downstream side of the Elliott Highway Bridge to ADF&G markers located at the Trans-Alaska Pipeline crossing (approximately 7 river miles downriver from the bridge).

The 2014 Chatanika River Personal Use Whitefish Spear Fishery will be open from September 19 through October 19.
