Alaska Board of Game to Meet in Anchorage, February 27-March 9, 2009
(Juneau) – The Alaska Board of Game will meet February 27-March 9, 2009 at the Dena’ina Civic & Convention Center in Anchorage. The board will consider over 200 proposals regarding changes to hunting and trapping regulations for the Southcentral & Southwest regions as well as other topics. The deadline for providing written comments to the board to ensure they are included in the Board members’ meeting binders is 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2009.
Proposals have been submitted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, local fish and game advisory committees, and members of the general public seeking adjustments to hunting and trapping regulations in the Southcentral and Southwest regions (Game Management Units 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17). Issues to be addressed by the board include: Seasons and bag limits for hunting and trapping, Tier II permit scoring and conditions for Unit 13, subsistence hunting, intensive management programs including methods and means for taking predators, permit hunt requirements and point system, and restricted areas for hunting and trapping including Chugach State Park. The board will also address a number of deferred proposals from previous board meetings that are from other regions of the state.
The board meeting will begin with oral public testimony on Friday, February 27, 2009. Anyone wishing to testify before the board must sign up at the meeting site before Saturday, February 28, at 4:00 pm. Public testimony will continue until everyone who has signed up has been given the opportunity to be heard. Deliberations on the proposals will follow public testimony and continue through the remainder of the meeting.
