Requested Tracking Map
During the last 10 days we have received locations for 4 bearded, 2 ringed, and 7 spotted seals. Two bearded and one ringed seal remain in the Chukchi Sea; all three are making localized movements. The ten other seals are located in the Bering Sea, of which seven are either in open water or the marginal ice zone. Of note, two male spotted seals (SS17-05-M, pink circle; and SS17-07-M, purple circle) entered Lavrentiya Bay, on Russia's Chukotka Peninsula, during this period. During the last two years we've had two other tagged seals, one spotted and one ringed seal, use this bay during their migrations. Sea ice data are courtesy of the U.S. National Ice Center, dated 18 December (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/products/daily_products.html).
