Requested Tracking Map
During the last 10 days we have received locations for 5 bearded and 7 spotted seals. Bearded seal BS16-05-F (red square) remains the only tagged seal north of the Bering Strait and is still located in the Beaufort Sea, along the coastline of northern Alaska, northwest of Kaktovik. All other tagged seals are in the Bering Sea, as far south as Bristol Bay. Relatively clear skies allowed for a clear satellite-image of the ice. Five of the 12 tagged seals are within 50 miles of the clearly defined ice edge in the central Bering Sea. Sea ice data are courtesy of the NASA Rapid Response Network, dated 12 March (https://earthdata.nasa.gov/earth-observation-data/near-real-time/rapid-response/modis-subsets).
