Requested Tracking Map
Over the last fourteen days we have received transmissions from only one ringed seal. Seal 110593, an adult male, is still northeast of Wrangel Island; however, this tag last transmitted a location on 11 September. The satellite tags (SPOT tags) attached to these ringed seals were fitted to their flippers and do not return many locations when seals swim through open water for long periods of time. Hopefully we will hear from this last seal again. The map uses ice data from the National Ice Center. These data represent a weekly average of ice concentrations in the Arctic from 9–15 September and, based on shipboard observations, may be more accurate than the SSMIS sea ice data from the University of Bremen.
