Jess Ryan would describe her perfect day on the job as one that includes probing under rocks at low tide while engaging in educational conversation with area visitors; exploring an edge community with a school group; and generally garnering and disseminating knowledge about the natural world. Happily her position as Education Coordinator at KBRR allows for just those sorts of opportunities!
A long-time Alaskan resident, Jess has degrees in environmental biology and northern studies. Before hiring on with the Reserve she worked for the University of Alaska, Fairbanks as a science writer and curriculum developer, oversaw operations at the Fairbanks-based Creamer's Field Nature Center as their Executive Director, and was the Education Director at the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward.
Her after hours passions include gardening, birding, and exploring the greater Katchemak Bay region on foot, by boat, and on skis.
