Reporting Requirements

  • Successful Hunters
    • Must return the completed hunt report to an ADF&G representative in Petersburg, Craig, Douglas, Kake, Ketchikan, Sitka, or Wrangell within 5 days of kill.
    • Specimens Required: Lower front teeth (on 5-inch section of jaw), and antlers (attached to the skull plate)
  • Unsuccessful Hunters
    Must return the completed hunt report to ADF&G, or report online at hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.
  • Internet Reporting
    If you hunted unsuccessfully or did not hunt, you may report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov

Hunting Conditions

ELIGIBILITY: The video "Is This Moose Legal" must be viewed before receiving a permit. This video may be viewed at ADF&G offices or online at www.legalmoose.adfg.alaska.gov

HUNT AREA: Units 3, 1B, and 1C, south of Point Hobart

SEASON DATES: September 15 - October 15

LEGAL ANIMAL: One bull moose with a spike or forked antler, or 50-inch or greater antler spread, or 3 or more brow tines on one antler, or 2 brow tines on both antlers. In the RM038 moose hunt a damaged, broken, or altered antler is not considered a spike-fork antler.

PERMIT, LICENSE, LOCKING TAG, TAG RECORD: While hunting you must have in your possession your signed RM038 permit, current hunting license, and - if you are a nonresident - a big game metal locking tag for moose and associated Big Game Tag Record.

IF YOU KILL A MOOSE:

-- You must immediately validate your permit by cutting out the month and date of harvest. If you are a nonresident, before leaving the kill site, you must affix your metal locking tag onto a part of the animal required to be salvaged
-- Reporting harvest/specimen submission: Within 5 days of kill, you must submit a completed permit report, the lower front teeth (on a 5-inch section of jaw), and the antlers (attached to the skull plate) to an ADF&G representative in Petersburg, Craig, Douglas, Kake, Ketchikan, Sitka, or Wrangell.

IF YOU DO NOT KILL A MOOSE, OR DO NOT HUNT: You must submit a completed permit report to ADF&G, or report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.

IF YOU FAIL TO REPORT AS REQUIRED: You will not be eligible to receive any permits next regulatory year and may face additional enforcement action.
