Hunting Conditions

1) PERMIT AVAILABILITY: Permits available online, at the Kotzebue and Utqiagvik (Barrow) ADF&G offices, and license vendors within Units 23 and 26A beginning June 1.


2) WHEN AND WHERE:
Unit 23 north of and including Singoalik River drainage:
Bag limit: Five caribou per day Season: Bulls: no closed season
Cows: July 15 - Apr 30
Remainder of Unit 23:
Bag limit: Five caribou per day Season: Bulls: no closed season
Cows: Sept 1 - Mar 31

Unit 26A, that portion of the Colville River drainage upstream from the Anaktuvuk River, and drainages of the Chukchi Seas south and west of and including the Utukok River drainage:
Bag Limit: Five caribou per day Season: Bulls: July 1 - Oct 14; Feb 1 - June 30
Cows: July 15 - Apr 30
Remainder of 26A:
Bag Limit: Five bulls per day Season: July 1 - July 15; Mar 16 - June 30
Bag Limit: Five caribou per day, Season: July 16 - Oct 15
three of which may be cows;
cows with calves may not be taken
Bag Limit: Three cows per day Season: Oct. 16 - Dec 31
Bag Limit: Five caribou per day, Season: Jan 1 - Mar 15

3) REPORTING: Unsuccessful hunters, those who did not hunt, and hunters who were successful must submit their report by July 15. Report in person, online at hunt.alaska.gov, by telephone (907) 442-3420 (you can leave a recorded message), at Kotzebue ADF&G office, or by pre-paid mail.


4) WHO QUALIFIES: Alaska Residents. Immediately upon taking an animal you must completely remove the number corresponding to that part of your bag limit and fill in the date you killed the animal as well as its sex in ink.


5) PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO REPORT: If you fail to report you may not be eligible to receive any permits during the next regulatory year. In addition, your name may be turned over to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers for enforcement action. Please contact the Department of Fish & Game for more information.


6) SIGNATURE: You must sign your permit and comply with the permit hunt conditions and any additional restrictions found in the Alaska Hunting Regulations. You must carry your signed permit while hunting or transporting caribou within the registration permit area and you must show it to any person authorized to enforce state and federal laws who requests to see it.
