The Online Bowhunter Course

Just like the Traditional Bowhunter course, the Alaska Online Bowhunter course is composed of two parts. The only difference between the Traditional and Online course is that the study and chapter review requirements of “Today’s Bowhunter” for the online course, is completed independently on the internet. After successfully passing the Online Field Day Qualifier Exam on the internet, you must attend a Field Day specifically designed for online students. At this Field Day you must successfully complete a standardized proficiency shoot and blood trailing exercise. It is mandatory that the field day be completed in Alaska at a State administered course. It is only after successfully completing both parts of the course that you will receive your Bowhunter Education Certification.

There are a few EASY steps to enroll in an Online Bowhunter Education course.

  1. To complete the online portion of the Online Bowhunter Education course, you will need an adequate computer, printer, and Internet access.
  2. Check the online field day course schedule to ensure that one of the field days fits in to your schedule before committing to an online course. The link to the field day schedule is at the bottom of this page.
  3. Study the material in Today's Bowhunter and complete the chapter review questions. Re-study any material you may have answered incorrectly.
  4. When you have studied all the chapters, take the Practice Test as many times as you like, “free of charge” to ensure you've mastered the course material. A different set of questions is presented each time you take the Practice Test.
  5. To become eligible for admittance to a Field Day, take the 50 question Field Day Qualifier Exam. There is a $30.00 charge for the online exam. This fee is collected whether you pass or fail. A score of 80% is required for passing the exam.
  6. Upon passing the Field Day Qualifier Exam, you can print out your official NBEF/IBEP Field Day Qualifier Certificate. After a one to three day waiting period, you will receive an email informing you that you can sign up online for a Field Day event in your area of Alaska. You must wait to receive this notification email before you can sign up. The Field Day will include a short review of Alaska specific issues, field course demonstrations, and a required shooting proficiency and blood trailing exercise with a certified instructor. Students that have completed the Online Course may still be required to take the current written exam at their field day.
  7. The student must successfully complete the online test, blood trailing course, and shooting proficiency to be certified. If any portion is not successfully completed, the student must retake the entire course. Online students also have the option to sign up for a Traditional Course for free if they failed the online course field day and don’t want to pay the online fee again.
