Sport fishing within 1,500 feet immediately downstream and 300 feet upstream of the department’s fish weir on the Little Susitna River at river mile 32.5 will close to all sport fishing beginning at 6:00 a.m., Friday, June 14. Regulatory markers identify the lower and upper boundaries of the closed area. 

Extending the closure below the weir to 1,500 feet is necessary to protect salmon that can become concentrated and more vulnerable to the fishery while seeking passage through the department’s weir. Any increase in catch rates within this area due to operation of the weir could reduce the intended benefits of emergency orders currently in effect to achieve the king salmon escapement goal.
