Susitna River Personal Use Salmon Fishery
Overview

The Susitna River is a large glacial river that flows south out of the Alaska Range and drains into Cook Inlet approximately 22 miles west of Anchorage. The numerous smaller clearwater rivers and creeks that feed the Susitna River support salmon populations.

In 2020, the Alaska Board of Fisheries passed regulations opening a portion of the lower Susitna River to personal use dipnet fishing. This fishery is falls under the Upper Cook Inlet personal use permit, along with Kenai, Kasilof, and Fish Creek personal use fisheries. This permit is required, and salmon must be marked. See the “Permits & Regulations” tab.

The area open to personal use fishing is only accessible by boat or airplane.
